Kelis sat down with PopBytes for an interview discussing her new single, new album, Rihanna & Lady GaGa swagger jacking and a whole heap more.
…I must say, I think she handled the Rihanna/GaGa situation pretty well - she blatantly isn’t feeling either of them, but she handled her business. The truth is, times are moving on, Kelis has been away for a minute, had a baby – new artists, as she said, had to come through.
I hope Kelis comes hard on this new album because that first single, “Acapella” produced by David Guetta, is just foolish to me. Said it once, I’ll say it again – Kelis needs to get back with the Neptunes like yesterday.
Peace, Love & Kelis

PinBoard was invited to Alicia Keys’ exclusive album launch party (in association with W Hotels) last night (Weds 9th 2009), where the 12 time Grammy award winner took to the stage for an intimate concert. Staged at the swanky Aqua Nueva in Central London, the event was attended by the likes of Alesha Dixon, Dizzee Rascal, JLS, Sabrina Washington and a whole host of others.
Miss Keys performed songs from her new album The Element of Freedom including “Doesn’t Mean Anything”, “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” and “Empire State of Mind (Part 2)”, as well as some of her previous hits like “You Don’t Know My Name” and “If I Ain’t Got You”. We got some footage of Alicia’s brilliant and powerful performance – check it out above!
After her short but sweet performance, the party really began. This was definitely one of the best ‘industry’ parties I’ve been to in a hot minute. I heard the label forked out a quarter of a million pounds on the shindig – the drinks were on constant flow, as was the food (when you could grab it!). The DJ’s turned it on too – we kinda partied hard! Great night.
The Element of Freedom truly is a great album. It’s released in the UK on December 14th, I highly recommend you cop it.
Peace, Love & Alicia Keys

Another leak off Mary’s Stronger With Each Tear…
Mary J. Blige – “Wait Until Tonight”
Seriously, I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a Mary album in a really long time. So far, I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve heard. This is kinda different for Mary, but I like it still..

Was just sent an email with some really great news…
We (Drebond Production) got a chance to document the signing of Aslyum/Warner’s newest artist, Outasight. The video tells Outasight’s story, starting with his modest beginnings and continuing through his recent success.
Be on the lookout for his new project, “Further” dropping for free download December 15th (courtesy of LRG clothing), and his album, “From Here to Eternity” dropping next year courtesy of Asylum/Warner.
As you all know we’re big supporters of Outasight’s and have been for a while now. We interviewed him way back in July 08 and since he’s gone from strength to strength. Now, with his major label deal in the bag – I’m expecting even bigger and better things!
Congrats!
Peace, Love & Outasight

Lemme know what you think, just about to watch this myself…
If this video isn’t the biggest pile of doo-doo you ever did see, then you Lambs are smoking some good sh*t. What the heck? This is the biggest selling female of all time? The woman who has broken Elvis’ record of the most number 1′s. And THIS is what she continually comes up with? Shots of her on a beach, in a number of bikini’s? I keep saying it, and I know a lot of folk don’t like hearing it, but Mariah Carey fell off. Big time. I’m not a fan of this track, but I do feel it deserved a much better video.
I’m genuinely disappointed in Mariah’s performances as of late. She used to be (and I mean this) one of my favourite singers/artists. Damn.
Peace, Love & Mariah Carey

The above is the cover for Usher’s upcoming album Raymond Vs Raymond due out in March 2010. The dude looks download depressed. What the? Not saying it’s terrible, but it makes me think the album is going to be all depressmo. Hope that’s not the case – don’t judge a book and all.
What do YOU think?

Not sure how many of you are checking for Karina Pasian, but this is her first single – try it out, you might be surprised…
Karina Pasian – “Perfectly Different”
I don’t consider myself a ‘fan’ per say – just because I don’t really follow/keep up to date with what Karina is doing, despite quite enjoying her first single. And if I keep it 100%, before I listened to this track I thought I wasn’t going to like it. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The simple, piano driven song displays Miss Pasian’s vocals beautifully. She possesses a real, clear set of pipe and she knows how to flex them ‘perfectly’. That said, I do feel that this song lacks a real sense of soul – it needs that little something extra. But overall, not a bad single.
As I said, try it out – you might be surprised.
Peace, Love & Karina Pasian

This is why I think Billboard is so cool, they’re always coming up with these cool features. Amongst other ‘end of the decade’ lists, they’ve compiled one of the biggest ‘one-hit’ wonders and actually, it’s quite the trip down memory lane! Fat Joe takes the number 2 spot (“Lean Back”), Mims (“This Is Why I’m Hot” lol) is firmly at number 4, but most shockingly Gnarls Barkley (“Crazy”) sits at 7. Now, I understand they didn’t achieve much commericial success after “Crazy” but both they’re albums were brilliant. So, not sure that one deserves to be there, but any how – check the top 20 below…
- Daniel Powter – “Bad Day” (who?)
- Terror Squad – “Lean Back”
- Crazy Town – “Butterfly”
- Mims – “This Is Why I’m Hot”
- D4L – “Laffy Taffy” (LOL!)
- James Blunt – “You’re Beautiful”
- Gnarls Barkley – “Crazy” (Booo!)
- Blu Cantrell – “Hit Em’ Up Style” (big tune still)
- Bo Nice – “He Loves Me Not”
- Dream – “He Loves U Not” (wow! ‘member this?)
- J-Kwon – “Tipsy”
- Cassie – “Me & U” (ouch)
- Lou Bega – “Mambo Number 5″ (one, two, three, four five everybody…)
- Lil’ Romeo – “My Baby
- Lumidee – “Never Leave You (Uh Ooh)”
- Hinder – “Lips Of An Angel”
- Kevin Little – “Turn Me On”
- Young Bloodz & Lil’ Jon – “Damn”
- Fort Minor Feat Holly Brook – “Where’d You Go”
- Samantha Mumba – “Gotta Tell You” (Damn, this takes me BACK!)
…Interesting/funny right? Some of those tracks still annoy me, but then others are still big tunes (shameful, maybe. True, yes). Check out the FULL LIST HERE and while you’re at it look at the other ones they have like a list of every number 1 during this decade and the songs that stayed at number one the longest during the past 10 years (who you think is number 1?).
There are some other great lists out there too, like Nielsen Soundscan’s who today announced that Eminem is the biggest selling artist of the decade and that Flo Rida’s “Low” was the biggest selling digital download (damn). Check the FULL LIST HERE.
Peace, Love & 00′s
