Whitney Houston’s comeback album I Look To You has gone straight in at number 1 in the US Billboard Charts, with over 305,000 album sold! The biggest week one sale ofh er career and the biggest of any other female this year! Whitney’s second album Whitney was the first ever by a female artist to enter the US charts at number 1 in 1987.  On top of this Whitney also holds the record for 7 consecutive US #1 singles – beating the Beatles’ previous record of 6.

This is amazing news! I’m so happy for Whitney, it’s been a long time coming and it’s great to see her come back in such a way. We all know how many ‘diva’s’ of the 1990′s have struggled to achieve success in this decade (naming no names, of course!), but what Whitney did was stick to what she does best. Yes, some may say the album is boring and conventional, but you know what, when you have a career to save – I guess that’s just want needs to be done!

In other Whitney news: As reported here on PBB, Whitney will be on the Oprah show on Sept 14th & 15th. This week Oprah took to her twitter, saying: “In search of ceiling repairmen. Cause Whitney just BL

Whitney recorded an interview with Oprah Winfrey this week, after which Oprah tweeted: “In search of ceiling repairmen. Cause Whitney just BLEW THE ROOF off of Harpo. Grown men & women weeping in the aisles”! .  Oprah Winfrey also stated “I think it’s the best interview Ive ever done.  But I guess you’re supposed to let other people say that about yourself.  I cant think of a moment, ever, when I had a stronger connection to the person I was interviewing.  I think whether you liked or loved Whitney Houston before you will certainly have a deeper appreciation for what she has been through as a human being.  And I mean, the fans are going to love her even more.”

Damn. When Oprah says that? Sheeeit. Big look!

Oh. My…!

This is Maxwell’s first full European tour in 11 years, and will accompany his US No.1 album and his forthcoming appearance on “Later with Jools Holland” on 27th October.

“BLACKsummers’night” is Maxwell’s fourth studio album and the first installment of a trilogy entitled “BLACK SUMMERS’NIGHT”. 8 years since his last offering BLACK is a much darker but soulful compilation. SUMMERS’ leans more toward the Gospel side and NIGHT is more a cool collection of slow jams.

In 1996, the then 23-year old Brooklyn born phenomenon took the music world by storm with his debut, “Urban Hang Suite”. The critically acclaimed CD received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album and went on to achieve double platinum status. Maxwell’s MTV: Unplugged (1997) achieved gold status. He was heralded as the future of soul music and proved his staying power when he followed up with 1998’s platinum seller “Embrya”. In 1999 Maxwell’s single, “Fortunate” (off of the LIFE soundtrack) became Billboard magazine’s number one hit of the year. Maxwell’s third album, “Now” (2001) debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart; selling 300,000 copies in its maiden week and eventually went on to reach double platinum status. The album was appropriately described by Entertainment Weekly as “A velvetined gauntlet thrown at the feet of today’s bling-bling-obsessed R&B pack.”

The tickets for these long awaited shows go on sale on Friday 11th September from www.aeglive.co.uk / 08444 775 775

28-Oct-09 / The Academy / Birmingham

30-Oct-09 / Academy / Manchester

31-Oct-09 / HMV Hammersmith Apollo / London

Update: Tickets are £45! Damn. That’s steep! You still going? Lol!

Peace, Love & Maxwell

Above is the official poster for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” movie, which is schedule to be released on October 28th (my birthday lol). Below – some news on the film…

1) Trailers are mostly done, and we’re waiting partly on the footage from the funeral which is being added in now. Expect to see the first ad premiere next weekend. I tried to press him on more info regarding the VMA’s but couldn’t get a confirmation.
2) The movie is not a 2 hour concert like many fans thought. In fact the movie is simply a documentary based around the This Is It tour, it shows Jackson in his final days and includes his death, aftermath, and reaction. Clips from the memorial and funeral will be used.

3) There will be some footage of MJ performing, much longer then the 3-4 minute snippet released at the end of June by AEG. You will see MJ in his dressing room, mingling and directing, plus one scene where he talks to the camera. Basically, it will show Jackson in his final months alive.

4) The movie is between 100 and 130 minutes in length.

5) The plan for the DVD is to have it out in late November by Thanksgiving or early December at the latest, although my source revealed this maybe a long shot if they extend the 2 week showing to 3 or 4 weeks (which is possible).

6) The DVD will contain the theatrical version in its whole plus over 2 hours of Jackson performing, warming up his vocals, singing, and in full costume. The most spectacular footage is by far from the Staples Center in LA which I’m told will “blow fans away”. This extra footage will be a special feature on the DVD along with many other treats that fans will love.

7) Finally, the CD soundtrack I’m told will be released after the movie, most likely sometime in November to coincide with the DVD launch and WILL include a new song Jackson recorded in his last 2 years alive. Apparently the song is “off the hook” and is currently being worked on by producers who are putting the finishing touches on it and is being considered to be issued as a single all around the world.

To me, this sounds exciting. Even though there is ‘big business’ in Michael Jackson at present, this is something I feel fans of the King of Pop deserve to see. I for one am very excited about this as it’s a chance to not only get to see something we’ll never, in reality, see again – but also, a nice way to put a positive spin on something so tragic. I think it will help a lot of people to see Michael Jackson spending his last days doing the one thing he loved the most – performing.

Peace, Love & Michael Jackson

Yo Fam,

Admittedly I have somewhat abandoned the PinBoard YouTube channel for a hot minute. I blame Twitter. But never fear, this is now set to change. You guys know, that even from way back when PinBoard was just young’an, we’ve been interviewing dope artists (which UK blogs were tuned in and interviewing the likes of Mickey Factz, Theophilus London, ESSO etc back in early 08?) – this is even truer today.

Over the past few months we’ve had an incredible run of great artists wanting to be interviewed by us and likewise, artists we admire have been happy to offer up their time to us. Our channel isn’t just for interviews, we also pop up any additional footage we have too including gigs, tidbits from London Town or any other cool thangs we think you folk may like to check out.

So, without further adieu – make sure YOU subcribe to our YouTube channel and be kept in(na) the loop with what we’re up to in the world of video blogging. Ya hear?

On another note: We have 4 major interviews coming up, so keep an eye out! We do this for the love and…For YOU!

Another one that dropped last night while I was raving. Leona Lewis finally releases some new music – here goes her first single of the new album Echo

Leona Lewis – “Happy”

…I mean, what is this? Sounds like a track that was left off her first (boring) album. I don’t get it. Leona Lewis is what, 20 years old? She’s a pretty girl, has one of the best voices we’ve heard in a really long time, yet she and her label still persist in making her sound like she’s a boring old person? This track as boring as the songs on Spirit. I was really hoping they would switch it up a bit, but if this is any indication of what’s to come – I ain’t checking for it.

It’s a shame.

Peace, Love & Leona Lewis
