First of all, if you love and know Hip Hop, I already assume you know about the Cookie Crew. If you claim to know about Hip Hop and don’t know the Cookie Crew, get a pen and paper coz’ this is going to be an education.

Cookie Crew are an essential part of Hip Hop history, they achieved worldwide success during a period of time where the genre itself was still in it’s infancy. Hailing from London they earned themselves a reputation and following on both sides of the Atlantic. Influenced by the sounds that New York City was producing in the early 80′s, they took it upon themselves to bring it to the UK and after winning a national rap competition did exactly that.

Watch the interview above and listen to Cookie aka MC Remedee (aka Big Sis) speak on the groups birth, their rise to legendary status and much more.

“We’re bad. We’re mean. We reign supreme”

This, in it’s truest definition, is real Hip Hop.

Peace, Love & the Cookie Crew

I actually think both the song and it’s video suck. Shame, coz’ I was well looking forward to what Alexandra was going to bring. Hopefully the album comes harder. Eh, least it ain’t a ballad.

I still find it strange that Alex and Cheryl are releasing material at the same time. I get that it’s all PR, but I just don’t see how it’ll work. Either way, one of them will come up on top and the other will be the one who publicly flops.

Peace, Love & Alexandra Burke

I know this isn’t something you’d normally find on PBB, but eh, Cheryl’s hot. I don’t like the song or it’s video.

Janet speaks about working with her big brother on “Scream”. She explains how the song was written during an extremely difficult time for Michael and how the video, nearly, never happened…

Mary J. teams up with Ryan Leslie on this joint called “Said & Done” which comes off her new album Stronger (drops November)…

Mary J Blige – “Said & Done”

This is real nice! I like it a lot. The beat kinda bumps and while it’s still very much a ‘Mary J Blige’ track, it’s still fresh. I’ve long been a fan of Blige’s and while I haven’t liked all her material (especially in recent years), I’m always happen when she has new stuff out.

After a whole heap of problems with her label, Joss Stone is finally set to return with a new album Colour Me Free on October 20th. The new album will boast production and guest appearances from Nas, Raphael Saadiq, Sheila E and more. “Free Me” is her first official single off said album and is quite clearly directed at those big wigs that caused her such problems.

The track is cool, I like it. And the album sounds like it’s shaping up to sound real nice. The thing is, I like Joss Stone’s voice, I think it’s pretty incredible actually, the only problem is, she’s erm, how do I say this…a d*ck.

Let’s hope the new album comes with a new attitude.

Peace, Love & Joss Stone

Mariah Carey performed and chatted with Oprah Winfrey yesterday…

I’m watching and reviewing. Damn. We gone back to 1990? Mariah looks dope and is sounding…REAL NICE! Boi. Also – a couple other things: firstly, that movie “Precious” (which we posted the trailer for waaaaaaay back when) looks amazing. Secondly – the interview with MC and Nick Cannon was not as…cringe-worthy as I thought it was going to be. In fact, I think they came off really good. Clearly, she’s in driving seat “Oh, this is great. Go.” is a very indicative phrase (lol) but generally, I thought they looks pretty sweet up there.

Melanie Fiona stopped by one of her fave stores, LTB Jeans, earlier this week to say spend time with fans. Check out the video below of her belting out an impromptu version of “Give it to Me Right” right there in the store.

Jay-Z took over Camden Town last night.

Blueprint 3 flags and billboards, dominated the Camden skyline – even the Roundhouse was decorated with the 3 stripes. To have a ticket was to have gold dust in your mitts. Peoples lined the street in hopes of scooping a last minute ticket (I was offered cash-money for my ticket in Nando’s). And the hustlers were shotting tickets like they were ‘music’s number 1 supplier’.

What was great was that people were genuinely excited to be involved and to have the chance to see Hova in such an ‘intimate’ setting.

One thing I noticed, even before the gig started, was the crowd. Put it down to Glastonbury, or the fact Rihanna & KanYe West are two of the world’s biggest Pop stars (and that they’re all over each others tracks), but, last night, the place was filled with people I doubt own Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint 1 or 2 or any Jigga back catalogue before The Black Album. And that’s cool, I’m not an elitist, but when drunk folk start grinding and lip locking in front of me – something’s up. Anyways, I digress…

10 minutes before Jay stepped on stage, a countdown timer appeared on the huge screen. Waiting 10 minutes, and watching 10 minutes pass are two very different things. It felt like the longest time…but as promised, once the time hit 00:00 – the beat dropped and Jigga burst onto the stage performing “D.O.A (Death of Auto-tune)”. To say the crowd were hyped would be an understatement. The Roundhouse sound system is most certainly well equipped for this type of gig and Jay’s beats echoed through the venue and pulsated through us.

Without pause, Jay dropped hit after hit, like his life was depending on it. “99 Problems”, “Heart of the City”, “Big Pimpin’”, “Hard Knock Life”, “Dirt Off Your Shoulders” – the list goes on. The classics kept coming, demonstrating just how many hits this man has had and how long he’s sat – comfortably – at the top.

But if I’m being real, I wanted to hear more Blueprint 3 material. “Run This Town” was played, which was cool, but having seen him perform this with KanYe and Rihanna stateside so many times, it didn’t have the impact it should have. The fact is, the song is dope, but due in part to the other two collaborators.

Hov then went in on “Empire State of Mind” – again, without his collaborator Alicia Keys. This on the other hand, sounded epic. Undeniably, as one of the stand-out tracks on the new album, “Empire State of Mind” is a new Jay-Z classic. Fact.

…That was it as far as new material goes. No “Venus Vs Mars”, no “Hate”, no “Thank You”, “Star is Born” or “Off That”. Understandable but a little disappointing none the less. The album only dropped in the UK three days before the show; therefore I assume he didn’t want a silent audience who didn’t know any of the tunes .  Yo, Hov – the album leaked 2 weeks ago.. I was on those lyrics!!

Don’t get me wrong, watching Jay-Z perform classic material is always a good look. Even on a bad day, Hova is undoubtedly superior to most rappers around today. Not only musically, but also in terms of sheer stage presence.  Jay-Z is a rare Hip Hop artist who can actually work a stage. His energy and demeanour while performing is second to none.

Artist. Brand. Icon. Three words synonymous with Mr Shawn Carter.

Peace, Love & Jay-Z
