This weekend I completely shut off from the outside world. Turned my phone off, disconnected from the Internet – just took some time out, ya know? Of course, music was accompanying me all the way through. I listened to Common quite a bit over the past few days. Not necessarily his newest stuff, but stuff from Can I Borrow a Dollar, Like Water for Chocolate and One Day It’ll All Make Sense.
…Then I played Electric Circus, an album I was gunned for liking back in the day and one that I still proudly fuxx with today. Many hated this album and I can understand why, but for me – it’s a dope, experimental album. Even when listening to it now, it just seemed like Lonnie had a lot of get off his chest, musically at least, and so just threw it all into one album. The LP as a whole isn’t very cohesive or very melodically fitting – but somehow…It works. “Come Close” which features Mary J Blige is the closet you get to ‘classic’ Common on this LP – it’s just a real nice track I like revisiting from time to time. I think the video, which takes up our classic moment spot this week, is also pretty sweet…
Enjoy.

Some brand new Melanie Fiona for your evening…
Melanie Fiona – “It Kills Me”
Ya’ll know I got nothing but love for this lady! Her voice, her vocals, her style, her songs – everything just works! This is yet another beautiful track. It comes off her up-coming debut album The Bridge.

This is truly sad.
Adam Goldstein aka DJ AM has been found dead in New York City.
The 36 year old DJ was found in his apartment around 5:20pm local time, where law enforcement sources say “drug paraphernalia” was found.
TMZ is reporting “DJ AM had not been seen or heard from for a few days – one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door”. The friend then called the Police, who broke down the door and found the DJ’s body.
You’ll remember last year (this time) DJ AM and drummer Travis Barker survived a plane crash. Four people died in the crash – DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors.
The story is still developing, but either way – it’s incredibly sad. Our thoughts go out to all AM’s family and friends.
Update: DJ AM’s final twitter message (on the 25th Aug): “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.”
Just wrote a couple more updates, but it just doesn’t seem right. If you want to see this story developing there are tons of sites that will be carrying it. PinBoard just won’t be one of them.

Mariah Carey covers the classic rock ballad “I Want To Know What Love Is”…
Mariah Carey – “I Want To Know What Love Is”
I mean, actually – I don’t hate it. She’s sounding real, real nice! Can she do this live? I dunno. I’m sure many folk who love the original will have A LOT to say about this, but as far as a Mariah track goes – I’m feelin’ it kinda. I mean, I won’t be bumpin it on a regular – but yea, I fuxx with it. I say again: she’s sounding nice.
…Still have doubts about this whole album though. After “Obsessed”, now this cover – what the heck are they doing. Bring back Mariah of Butterfly years. Damn it!

One of my My favourite freshman emcee returns with some new music. Which means I’m happy. Don’t get too overly excited though, this is just an instrumental EP. But, it’s Blu we’re talking about here, so you KNOW it’s gonna be ill. Download and enjoy. I am. Honestly, I think Blu’s is the only myspace page I still visit on the regular – the guy still uses it as it was intended back in the day: to release music. Word.

There have been tons of revolutionary products and technologies that have shaped and changed our lives over the past 10 years or more. And in my opinion one of the greatest ones thus far has been the invent of Spotify. It’s one of the most genius pieces of software around and one that I really couldn’t live without (now). The ability to stream music, as though it’s already stored on your computer, for free is just fu*king amazing and a must-have for any music fiend like me.
…Anyways, I digress. SO the next big step was the application for the iPhone which no one was sure would be approved. The Spotify business model is a little too close for comfort for Apple. The abilty to not only stream music, but also store it on your phone and listen while not connected to the internet – so you can kiiiiinda understand their trepidation.
But alas, it has been approved. Apple has finally given the Spotify application the green light, allowing users to stream music on their handsets. The application will be free, but will require the users to have a premium Spotify subscription, which will cost £10. “The Swedish music streaming service is looked on as a rival to Apple’s iTunes store because of its comprehensive, free library of millions of songs”.
I’m a geek, so for me, lover of Spotify and owner of iPhone – this is great news! I’m stupidly (and I mean that) excited about this. I’m not a fan of subscriptions, but for this, I shall be signing up.
Such a dork.

I posted this track a few days ago, but that was just a sh*tty radio rip (ya’ll know I hate that crap), so thought I’d repost with the CDQ version, plus some new artwork.
Alexandra Burke Feat Flo Rida – “Bad Boys”
When I posted it before, I said I didn’t have a lot of time to listen to it fully and properly, so couldn’t really say much on it. Now, after listening to it clearly, I can say I’m not 100% feeling this. It’s a weird song choice, they could have done A LOT more with Alexandra. Her voice is, as we all know, great and it suits both ballads and up tempo’s. And while I think it’s great that they chose an upbeat song for her to debut, why this? Why Flo Rida?
Alexandra’s voice suits R&B – you can’t get around that. Why the f*ck are labels scared of exploiting that? This crossover pop-hybrid is insulting. I ask: if Alexandra was still a nobody trying to make it, would she have a) liked this track and b) imaged this would have been her debut? Taking into account her idol is Beyonce?
…Think we all know the answer to that. Unfortunately I’m unimpressed.
Peace, Love & Alexandra Burke

This girl is on fiyah. Not the best singer, not the best dancer, not the best performer, but something about her is somewhat capitvating. It’s very strange. I don’t normally fall into the trap of liking an artist like this, but for some dumb reason, I really check for Rihanna lmao!
