Over the past 4 days I have been sent a stupid amount of ‘Michael Jackson’ tribute songs. Sadly, most of them have been full of sh*t and sound near terrible. It’s clearly evident those who want to pay homage to MJ, but on the flipside it’s also abundantly obvious who is doing it for the ‘hype’ factor. Shambolic in my opinion.
ANYHOW…This is one of those great ones. The Roots, Erykah Badu – you know what it is! They pay their respect to the King of Pop by performing the Jackson 5 (I stand corrected) his hit “I Wanna Be Where You Are”…
The Roots & Erykah Badu – “I Wanna Be Where You Are” [MJ Tribute]
I think it sounds dope! Funky, modern but still, full of soul. Anything Erykah Badu sings is alright with me. Nicely done.
Today was actually the first time in 4 days I’ve been able to listen to Michael Jackson. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it before. Sad, because erm, I play at least one MJ track on average a day normally (lol). But yea, after hearing Janet Jackson last night at the BET Awards and seeing NeYo and the other acts honour his music – I kinda felt good enough to listen to him again. I’m beginning to think about his life, not his death.
Peace, Love, The Roots & Erykah Badu

P.s I know there have been a couple other great tribute songs/albums going around, it’s just too long to post them all up. The Game’s one is dope.
P.p.s You won’t be seeing any Michael Jackson ‘gossip’ here. So, erm, don’t look for it.

What an amazing tribute.
Just a quick note; this was actually a Michael Jackson track not a J5 one. Its from his debut album and probably my fave Jackson track ever.
[...] Yesterday I posted their cover of “I Wanna Be Where You Are” and now The Roots & Erykah Badu pay tribute to the King of Pop by covering “Billie Jean”… [...]
