The PinBoard crew were in full force down at the Notting Hill Arts Club, in London last night to catch Mr Theophilus London do his thing. We were all hyped about seeing him live for the first time – particularly coz we’ve all been bumpin’ his This Charming Mixtape since…forever now!
Theophilus rolled up on stage to quite a lacklustre response, which was kinda weird? We, front row and centre, were of course showing mad love to the Brooklyn native – and ready to see how he gets down on stage. He began his set with the punk infused, electronic “Ultraviolet”, and boi, does he go all out live? Working the stage and microphone while skanking nicely – 80′s styleeee the homie was all over the joint. The track pulsated through the speakers and translated nicely through London , I could feel the crowd (who I don’t actually think knew Theophilus) slowly begin to loosen the f**k up.

London continued to rock LDN nicely dropping the very best tracks from the his mixtape, including the UK inspired “Head, Shoulders, Knee’s & Toes” and “Crazy Cousins”, “TNT”, “Cold Pillow”, “I Will Always Love You” and “Grey X Sage”. His set was impressive – he delivered all the tracks I (and the crew) wanted to hear
and he did so brilliantly. He persisted throughout his performance to bring up various females (and one dude) on the stage to help him out. What he did with the chick during “I Will Always Love You” was pure genius (video soon come)!
…Then he brought out MeLo-X for a lil’ on stage collabo – which was, straight up, extraordinary! And an extremely nice surprise to put it mildly! MeLo-X as you know, is a firm favourite here at PinBoard so to catch him live too? Yesssir! The guy tore it up. See, production wise – you can’t touch him but on the mic too? Too much.

Theophilus ended the show perfectly, taking us all to chuuuurch with a sing-a-long of “Happy Day” – if ever there was a song to make people smile – that’s it. It was actually pretty damn cool! Everyone in that place knew the version (you can’t not love “Sister Act 2″) and was more than happy to two-step to it. Crazy finale.
In all, a great gig. I enjoyed it and I know the rest of the crew did too. As I said, I’m pretty sure the majority of the crowd didn’t know who he was or what he was about (too much frontin’ agwan), but Theophilus London did his thing well enough to bring them all round. Job well done I say.

After the gig and a very brief rave, we decided it was time to depart – but before we did Fantasticunt and I had the pleasure of meeting MeLo-X – who, to both our surprise, expressed how much he loved PinBoard. *Stop. Wait. What?* Which standardly flawed us both. We got some special stuff planned with him in the coming weeks – so keep it locked right hurrrr for more info on that!
Oh, and lastly – big up to H-Boogie who also performed last night. She rocked that stage good! I was impressed. She looked bad! You can see pictures of her performance and some more of Theophilus London and MeLo-X after the jump!
