“Reality Check” is the first track to leak from the upcoming Jay Stay Paid album, a collection of largly unheard Dilla beats mixed by Pete Rock and executive produced by Ms Yancey. The project will also feature DOOM, Raekwon, Illa J, Blu and M.O.P. This track features Black Thought…

J.Dilla Feat Black Thought – “Reality Check”

…And as you would expect, it’s completly dope! Dilla and Black Thought – can’t really go too wrong?!

Dilla’s mother, who as I mentioned executive produced the new album, said: “This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old floppy disks & DATs. Its mind blowing…this is like the missing links to Dilla’s legacy”.

It’s a sad fact, but the masses are still fast asleep when it comes to K-Os and his brilliance…

[dailymotion id=x2owo]

“Man I Used To Be” is just one of many tracks K-Os has produced that need your undivided attention. I’m not joking, his albums Exit & Joyful Rebellion are packed to the brim with pure class. I’m so confused to why not that many people know or reference him more. Well, I guess that’s why we’re here. If you haven’t checked K-Os out before, make sure you do now via his myspace. He’s got a new project on the way too.

“Red” is Daniel Merriweather’s second single off his forthcoming album Love & War

I’m a huge fan of Merriweather’s album – it’s really something great. He’s a dope song writer and an amazing singer. “Red” is definitely one of my favourite cuts from the album. I love this tune. Don’t sleep on this dude. Really.

The PinBoard crew were in full force down at the Notting Hill Arts Club, in London last night to catch Mr Theophilus London do his thing. We were all hyped about seeing him live for the first time – particularly coz we’ve all been bumpin’ his This Charming Mixtape since…forever now!

Theophilus rolled up on stage to quite a lacklustre response, which was kinda weird? We, front row and centre, were of course showing mad love to the Brooklyn native – and ready to see how he gets down on stage. He began his set with the punk infused, electronic “Ultraviolet”,  and boi, does he go all out live? Working the stage and microphone while skanking nicely – 80′s styleeee the homie was all over the joint. The track pulsated through the speakers and translated nicely through London , I could feel the crowd (who I don’t actually think knew Theophilus) slowly begin to loosen the f**k up.

dsc09262

London continued to rock LDN nicely dropping the very best tracks from the his mixtape, including the UK inspired “Head, Shoulders, Knee’s & Toes” and “Crazy Cousins”, “TNT”, “Cold Pillow”, “I Will Always Love You” and “Grey X Sage”. His set was impressive – he delivered all the tracks I (and the crew) wanted to hear and he did so brilliantly. He persisted throughout his performance to bring up various females (and one dude) on the stage to help him out. What he did with the chick during “I Will Always Love You” was pure genius (video soon come)!

…Then he brought out MeLo-X for a lil’ on stage collabo – which was, straight up, extraordinary! And an extremely nice surprise to put it mildly! MeLo-X as you know, is a firm favourite here at PinBoard so to catch him live too? Yesssir! The guy tore it up. See, production wise – you can’t touch him but on the mic too? Too much.

dsc09271

Theophilus ended the show perfectly, taking us all to chuuuurch with a sing-a-long of “Happy Day” – if ever there was a song to make people smile – that’s it. It was actually pretty damn cool! Everyone in that place knew the version (you can’t not love “Sister Act 2″) and was more than happy to two-step to it. Crazy finale.

In all, a great gig. I enjoyed it and I know the rest of the crew did too.  As I said, I’m pretty sure the majority of the crowd didn’t know who he was or what he was about (too much frontin’ agwan), but Theophilus London did his thing well enough to bring them all round. Job well done I say.

dsc09279

After the gig and a very brief rave, we decided it was time to depart – but before we did Fantasticunt and I had the pleasure of meeting MeLo-X – who, to both our surprise, expressed how much he loved PinBoard. *Stop. Wait. What?* Which standardly flawed us both. We got some special stuff planned with him in the coming weeks – so keep it locked right hurrrr for more info on that!

Oh, and lastly – big up to H-Boogie who also performed last night. She rocked that stage good! I was impressed. She looked bad! You can see pictures of her performance and some more of Theophilus London and MeLo-X after the jump!

Peace, Love, Theophilus London & MeLo-X

Jessie Maguire caught up with Mickey Factz in NYC a few days before he signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Mickey talks about how far he is along with The Achievement, his GFC roster, the “hipster” classification, and more.

Mickey Factz signing to Roc Nation is monumental. Wow. Very, very, very well deserved! Factz, a long time friend of PinBoard, will take this sh*t over. Don’t watch that. The Achievement is coming!

Check the brand spanking new video from one of the UK’s finest, Dizzee Rascal. Shot on a special 360 degree camera that uses 6 lenses (which is a first for a music video), this is (literally) “Bonkers”…

[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.811604&w=425&h=350&fv=config_settings_suppressCodec%3Dh264%26playlist%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.co.uk%2Fradio1%2Femp%2Fauto%2Fzanelowe%2F090416_dizzeebonkers.xml%26config_settings_showFooter%3Dtrue%26]

Fuuuuuu*k!!!!!!!! Is that how Dizzee’s getting down now huh? The track is too big and has ‘Number 1′ written all over it! But that video? Stupid dope! Always one to push boundaries, the Rascal has just gone and blown everything out of the water. How many UK artists do you see making videos like that…Really? Damn.

fast_furious_poster

Last night a Homie (inside joke) and I took full advantage of Orange Wednesday’s and headed to our local cinema to catch the latest edition to the Fast & the Furious franchise, simply entitled “Fast & Furious”. Which, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know features the original cast from the first movie: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michele Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster.

I’m a big fan of the first two movies (ignored the one with Bow Wow) and so, naturally, was anticipating this one. With the full original cast back on board, I was preparing for an all out no brainer smash. I was sadly wrong. Instead I was left disappointed at the laughable script, weak story line and general cheese fest the film ended up being. The only redeeming aspect of the movie was of course, those all important action scenes – which were tight (but not mind blowing).

Now, I’ love the action genre, so I don’t necessarily expect a riveting story, complex plot lines and/or a whole heap of intellectually challenging twists – however (and stupidly so), I do expect a certain standard. It was strange to witness a film with such little dialogue acted out so terribly. Pretty much the entire on screen cast failed to deliver a single line convincingly. But then, in fairness, they didn’t really have much to play around with. The story, despite one tiny little surprise, was incredibly flat and extremely predictable. Which again, in this genre, is somewhat bearable if only the action scenes are so big, so intense and so memorising that it makes up for everything else – nothing in “Fast & Furious” did that unfortunately.

I feel I’m being a little too harsh on this, but I think that’s only because I was pretty excited about seeing it. I really couldn’t recommend anyone go see this, but I know there will be those who love it (my sister being one of them!). So, I say cop it from your local DVD man or boi, just hit up your favourite torrent site. Don’t pay top dollar to see it.

I’d give it a 2 out of 5.

Peace, Love & “Fast & Furious”
