teairra

For me, Teairra Mari falls into the ‘Keri Hilson types’ category. And what I mean by that is, I really don’t have much of an opinion on them either way. I don’t dislike them, but then, I can’t say I fu*ks with their music either. Their in a weird position where I’m kinda left wondering: what are you brining that is fresh/unique/new? Personally, I don’t think either of them are doing any of those things…

…BUT having said that, I do quite like this new track that’s just surfaced entitled “Automatic”.

Teairra Mari – “Automatic”

Yea, I mean I like the pop-synth sound it’s got going on. Do I love it? Not really, but I like it. I think these ladies need to come hard with their tracks. Let’s be real, the Mari’s of this world don’t got the chops like say Beyonce or Jennifer Hudson. But, neither does someone like, say, Rihanna. But what Rihanna does that these ladies don’t, is she [her people] releases the right tracks. She [her people] makes it work for her. She [they] work with what she has. I think these ladies (who I’m not saying aren’t talented btw) need to do the same thing. Just come harder.

Wow, that was quite a rant init? It’s just coz I’m constantly asking myself: what is this artist bringing to the table? And if the answer is ‘not much’ then I kinda move on.

Peace, Love & Teairra Mari

This is so cool. Check Mos Def reciting (word for word) some of his favorite DOOM lyrics and why his such a fan of the masked one…

Lil’ Wayne Vs DOOM? Haha. Wheezy, would be bruised me thinks.

Oh and while I’m on the subject, the homie Jama just did a stupid dope review of DOOM’s (incredible) new album Born Like This album over at Fact Magazine < You definitely need to check that out.

Imma share my views on the album in the next couple days, so watch out for that.

Peace, Love & Mos/Def

Above, an interview T.I did with CNN just before his sentencing today, where  a judge sentenced the rapper to one year and a day behind bars on federal weapons charges on Friday. The Associated Press reports:

The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, entered court smiling as he greeted his lawyers and family members. He wore a dark gray suit and black dress shirt and tie for sentencing.

“Today I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all,” the rapper told U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. at the 1 and 1/2 hour session.

Harris pleaded guilty last March after he was arrested in 2007, attempting to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers. The arrest on Oct. 13 of that year occurred blocks from where he was to headline the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta hours later.

He will have between 30 and 60 days to report to prison. Harris already has completed about 1,000 hours of community service and has warned youths about the pitfalls of guns, drugs, violence. He will need to complete 470 additional hours.

“Everything I learned was through trial and error,” Harris also told the judge. “I’ve learned lessons in my life to put in my music so people won’t make the same mistakes as I.”

At Friday’s hearing, former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young spoke on Harris’ behalf.

“He’s been able to do the work I’ve been trying to accomplish for so long in stopping violence in this country,” Young told the judge.

Harris had faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count, until he cut a deal and pleaded guilty last March to the federal weapons charge and was sentenced to one year and a day in prison.

Harris initially pleaded not guilty and was released on a $3 million bond before being placed under house arrest.

Ed Garland, one of his attorneys, said they are not sure where he will serve his sentence.

Upon his release, Harris is to be placed on three years of supervised release. He also will be credited for 305 days of home detention he already has served and must serve an additional 60 days, authorities said.

Harris agreed to community service to avoid a lengthy sentence. He already has made 262 public appearances as part of that deal.

Much of that work has been done with children.

Although he has taken part in a voting campaign and had an MTV reality show, “Road to Redemption” to scare teens straight, that was not part of the community service.

Harris is one of the co-chief executives of Grand Hustle Records and one of Atlantic Records’ most successful artists.

His sixth album, “Paper Trail,” has sold nearly two million copies. It also charted two smash No. 1 songs, and a third with Justin Timberlake is near the top of the charts.

T.I. said fear was the reason he tried to buy the guns. His best friend, Philant Johnson, was killed following a post-performance party in Cincinnati in 2006. A man was found guilty last year in the murder case.

Damn. I mean, this sh*t is sad, but you know, you do the crime and all. But it seems like T.I. ‘gets’ that (you know some celebs don’t) and yea, wish him all the best for the next year (and one day?!?).

Peace, Love & T.I.

I’ve been saying it since, forever, but N.A.S.A. and their Spirit of Apollo album are both dope and more importantly, very creative. This, their new video, featuring KanYe, Santogold and Lykke Li is just one [very cool] example of what they’re about…

I do appreciate a good video! It’s something we aren’t treated to often these days, which sucks in my opinion. But yep, this I’m diggin.

Peace, Love & N.A.S.A.

Download: Daru & Rene – “ILuvU”

The video above was sent to me early last week (shouts to Steve), but I haven’t had much time to post it up. Then the homie Fantasticunt (who just dropped two brand new, must have, mixtapes over at Your Mums) reminded me bout it. Neither of us had the mp3  but the lovely (and resourceful) Shenangagainworked her magic and provided us with it. Noooice, right?

Anyways, Daru & Rene, a brother/sister Soul-Hop group, create music that not only feels good, but also bends the rules a lil’ too. Daru, the producer and Rene the singer bounce of each other like only a brother and sister could. Real soul, real Hip Hop, “ILuvU” is the perfect example of what they do best. This infectious and highly addictive track  will have you hitting the repeat button over and over. Well, it did with me anyways. This tune is so, so, so dope! Tell me, do I lie??

Their brand new Luv EP is on it’s way, but in the meanwhile, I say: these two are most certainly ones to watch.

Peace, Love & Daru & Rene
