As mentioned a couple days back, we’re adding a new feature to PinBoard. “5 Questions With…” will feature a variety of people (mainly around London (but not exclusively so)) who are doing something production, cool, innovative, interesting, fun and/or funny etc…

For the first edition, I caught up with Luke Monaghan aka Ginger Kid, a London native stand up comedian, bloggingmeistro and co-founder of his latest and flagship project TropicalTV. We sat down with the Ginger Kid and asked him 5 questions…

PinBoard: Who are you/what do you do? [Yea, that's one question!]

My name is Luke Monaghan, I’m at the ripe age of 19 and you can catch me on the London Stand-Up comedy circuit at least 3 times a month, check my myspace for dates. I write for pretty much the biggest website of it’s kind in the UK, atribecallednext.com, under the name Ginger Kid or GK. My main outlet is TropicalTV, it’s my Internet TV channel, which I do with three other guys. We try to make entertaining, educational and enthusiastic videos. We like to call it the three E’s. I done three E’s once. It was good.

PinBoard: Where, what or who do you represent?

I mainly like to represent my Mum. She heaved me into this world, so I like to rep her constantly out of respect. But really, I rep TropicalTV, we are four guys going by the names of Me (Luke), Patrick, Harrington and Harry. Doing something fresh, new and different. Comedy needs it, there is good stuff around i.e. Peep Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Conchords and I really rate what James Cordon is doing. But as for any other young British talent, that young people can relate to, it’s kinda bleak. I mean it is there, but nobody is pushing themselves as a product, trying something new and realising the potential of the Internet. The foundations are there, and alot of people are taking interest in us, so thanks to PinBoard also! It’s great and very flattering. You really haven’t seen anything yet.

PinBoard: What have you been up to for the past two weeks?

Well today I had a photoshoot with an amazing photographer called Law Bassi, google her and have a look at her Flickr, she really is the future. I have had many nights up until 4am recently, getting all sorts of TropicalTV business sorted out, but now it’s all there, website is done, now the video content is ready to be broadcast on our Vimeo. So check it out, there will be a steady content of new videos up! So keep coming back. I have also had a good few wanks, drank quite a lot of alcohol and had some meetings with people about stuff.

PinBoard:…Twitter?

Me on Twitter? Of course. www.twitter.com/lukeGK, It’s the future, you can hear what I’m doing all of the time, so if your going to follow me, expect updates such as ‘Luke is making a hotdog’ …’Luke burnt himself making a hotdog’…and stuff.

PinBoard: Which do you prefer: Tea or Coffee / Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s / Jay-Z or Nas?

Tea. Coffee is for pretentious wankers // I used to have a part-time job in Sainsbury’s as a student, nearly got the sack loads of times. So it will have to be them. // “I got this locked since 91, I am the truest, name a rapper that I ain’t influenced.” Nas all the way. But along with Biggie, that’s the Top 3 of all time. Tupac was overrated.

So there you have it, 5 Questions were asked. Hopefully you’ve gotten to know GK and his movement a little better. If not, eh, what you gonna do init? In any case, make sure you check TropicalTV on a regular (they’re constantly updating) and show some love when you’re over there. Make sure you tell em’ who sent you too!

I’ve been Speeakz. He’s been Ginger Kid. They’ve been TropicalTV. You’ve been you. Everyone happy?!
