twitter

Errrrrrryone and their mum is talking about Twitter. The dialogue is pretty big right now. I’m hearing it on GMTV, This Morning, Sky News, I’m reading it in the Guardian and the Independent and am now hearing it on the bus. Not to mention facebook, blogs and the rest of the TinterNets.

…SO naturally it’s only right I have my say.

Two quintessential questions: Twitter is…? / What’s it for…?

To be honest, I’m still really figuring it out. When I first signed up, it was out of pure interest. I kept seeing it around coz every artist/PR/management company had “twitter” at the end of their emails. Once I signed up, I was super confused.com. For a site that generates so many questions, it’s ironic that it’s very purpose is based around one simple question: What are you doing? I laid low for a bit, sussed it out and realised something so profound, so mind blowing, so massive that I felt like I figured out the meaning of life: “Twitter is…a glorified facebook status”.

LOL.

Once I realised this, I began using it quite a bit and now am pretty much using it whenever I’m online. For me personally, it’s a great way to connect with a whole heap of artists/producers who I respect and have come to know through PinBoard and similarly with PR/Management/Label folks and other bloggin’ peeps I’ve met a long the way (and of course this is true of personal friends too).

It is a good and simple way of seeing what peeps are up to and yo, when you get an email saying “Jay Electronica” is following you and then recieve a direct message from him – it’s pretty damn cool. (Erykah Badu says hello btw!) LOL. BUT in all total honestly the “What’s it for…?” question is still very hard to explain. I’m not entirely sure what it’s for or if indeed it is needed, but I know that in the age of the online social network – twitter somehow fits in.

I know some will stubbornly not sign up (just to prove a point) and I know some will hate it. And yea I agree, it’s a bit of a hassle having ‘one more thing’ to change/update but like most online fads – we will all get used to it. I do think this twitter business will be pretty big. It’s already maaaasssshooooosive in the USA and reports are saying that in the past 6 months the UK traffic has increased by 945%.

Truth is, just like facebook, myspace and youtube, is just another self indugegent way of letting people know you’re here. It’s nothing to be taken too seriously – it’s just a bit of fun at the end of the day.

So yea, to twitter or not to twitter. That is the question.

Oh and make sure you follow me!

Peace, Love & Twitter

P.s £20 bet in a month I get bored?

  1. Magnus says:

I owe twitter a lot, for the biggest part, it landed me an interview with 6th Sense and it was his favorite interview ever.

  2. [...] Erykah Badu is currently in labour ya’ll!! But that’s not the surreal part, the surreal part is that she is also currently twittering about it! LOL! It’s mad crazy but the Mum and Dad to be are both at home, prepping for their home birth (waiting on the mid-wife!) and keeping us all updated via the crazy world of twitter! [...]
