One of my favourite nights is returning February 11th!

Writers Block is a jam! Spoken word, live music and short films in the heart of Shoreditch @ Juno Bar – it really doesn’t disappoint. There maybe a few similar events around the city, but this one ain’t typical. Above all it isn’t pretentious. It brings together a great mix of folk who just enjoy kicking back and enjoying some dope performances. Not to mention, no other night has their resident MC - who is beyond jokes!

Be there yo!

kanye-mullet1

This is just too much!!! As you can see Kanye has gone and got himself a mullet. A f*ckin mullet? LOL! I can only imagine this is another case of too many “yes men” around, but for what ever reason (and don’t be claiming “fashion” or that it looks good cozit’s neither!) it’s not a good look. Sorry. Anyways, KanYe performed at the inauguration ball too – I haven’t looked, but hopefully I’ll find some footage of that too.

Peace, Love & Mullet.

*I’m fully aware everyone has probably seen the following a million times already but hey, let’s do this for archival purposes*

I was happy when they introduced Aretha Franklin, I wasn’t aware she was gonna be singing…

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFkj7ryI4h8&eurl=http://perezhilton.com/&feature=player_embedded]

…But erm, while it was most certainly moving, I can’t say I enjoyed her performance. I hate even saying this, but her voice wasn’t that great? I heard Franklin’s voice wasn’t what it used to be (which is pretty natural for a lot of singers?), but I did not enjoy this. I thought it was kinda annoying. But, having said that it was great to see her up there as I know she had quite a lot to do with the civil rights movement during the 1960′s and knew Dr Martin Luther King Jr personally. So in that spirit, her attendance and participation was most certainly deserving. NB: I understand that her voice isn’t necessarily the most important thing about this whole performance (lol).

After the jump, watch Obama’s (now historic) inauguration speech.

Just spotted this over at Perezhilton.com. The Sun (God love em’) have attained some exclusive footage of Amy Winhouse on holiday giving a rather spontaneous performance on the piano…

Ok, well, at the very very very very very least, the girl still has that voice! I mean, of course it’s not what it could be right now – but crack does that to a person! It’s great but also kinda sad to hear her sing like that and know the type of sh*t she’s put herself through. Here’s to hoping she really is getting her act together.

I’m dashing out to meet some homies for dinner, so I’ll let J.J explain:

Today is a very special day as you all know. [The] first Black President was just inaugurated and the mood is electric. How could the day get any better you ask? How about another installment of the A Love Supreme Sessions and two new UNI joints?

In this 4th installment, we get the perspective of U-N-I, Ro Blvd. and the Love Supreme project from the people that the group works with; music video director Tomas Whitmore, Radio Personality Devi Dev, and Radio Personality Chris
Loos. The theme is LOVE people get with it.

Also we have the Castlevania remix featuring Black Milk and Run Son produced by Ro Blvd featuring El Prez, 310, C San and Casie Veggies. I told you the day would get better. Shout out to C London, UNI and Ro Bully. Remember the name DRG films and keep a look out for the Mick Boogie mixtape Before There Was Love and of course the A Love Supreme Project

1$_AW_[19198] Notorious

Earlier today I was sent some new UK promo shots for the NOTORIOUS film that’s released February 13th in the UK. The movie is gaining quite a buzz and made more than $25 million in it’s opening weekend over in the U.S – which is massive for a Hip Hop movie.

It’s great to see that Biggie’s legancy has been respected in such a way. I really hope it’s a success over here too and boi, I cannot wait to see it!!

Peace, Love & NOTORIOUS

On Feb 2nd Daniel Merriweather, who I’ve been tellin’ you to watch, will be releasing “Change”, the first single off his (dope) new album Love & War. In anticipation of this release, he’s decided to release a track to get ya’ll all excited and sh*t. The download is for the remix of “Chainsaw” featuring UK Hip Hop kingpin Skinny Man < f*ckin legend!

I’ve had Merriweather’s album for a minute now and I kid you not, it’s been in constant rotation ever since. He’s an incredible singer/songwriter – his music is definitely standing out from anything else out there at the moment. The new single “Change” is stupidly good too. I find myself singing [badly] to it all the time lol!

Watch this dude. And make sure you cop Love & War which drops April 09.

Peace, Love & Daniel Merriweather
