This is my jam! 1997! Ah man, this takes me waaaaaaaay back! I rinsed this so, so much back in the day. The Brand New Heavies have always been a dope group, but this is one of my favourite tracks of theirs. I prefer this version to the original of course. R.I.P Dilla.

Hailing from Toronto, Ayah is a soul singer I was introduced to when Elzhi’s “The Leak” dropped on which she featured. After a quick google search, I discovered this amazing artist and her incredible (FREE) mixtape Problem Woman.
Ayah (Arabic word for sign or miracle) is a self taught singer/songwriter/composer who calls on her many influences to create her own musical style. Born in the Hip Hop generation, Ayah’s unique take on music fuses together Soul, Funk, R&B and Hip Hop which is perfectly demonstrated throughout Problem Woman.
Straight up, I cannot tell you how much I have rinsed this mixtape! Simply put, it’s dope! And with every listen I seem to love it more and more. It’s so, so fresh. Her melodies are ridiculous and her ability as songwriter and a vocalist will, I’m sure, blow your mind (as it has mine!).

Over the course of the 22 track mixtape, you really get a sense of who Ayah is. I’m not a big fan of interludes, but the ‘AyahLudes’ (snippets of an interview) are pretty cool. During these sound bites, she shares her opinions, influences and speaks about her Middle Eastern background and more; Which I think adds a real personal touch to the whole project.
As I listen to Problem Woman (as I am right now), I can’t help but think of Marsha Ambroious and even Jill Scott. Don’t get me wrong, Ayah most certainly has her own style, but I know anyone who likes those artists (as I do) will love, love, love this lady.
So I think I’ve gushed enough. I can’t say anymore on how much I love Problem Woman and how much respect I have for Ayah as an artist. I will be checkin’ this lady for a long time to come and I cannot wait for her full album to drop.
Peace, Love & Ayah - one to watch.

I’ve purposely stayed away from reporting any of this Danity Kane/Diddy BS because we’re not really into posting ’gossip’ here on PinBoard (well, unless it’s stupidly juicy of course) but the following video featuring Dawn from DK pretty much seems like the nail in the groups coffin?
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb96cjHi7Hw&eurl=http://toyas-world.net/&feature=player_embedded]
I mean, what the hell? Can’t a group stay together for more than 2 albums anymore? What’s with all the drama? It’s not like they have an MTV show to promote…Oh, wait, that’s right – the new season of ‘Making the Band’ airs like next week right? LOL. Whatever init. It is what it is. Danity Kane made (in my opinion) two pretty dope albums. The first was very R&B/Hip Hop-ish and the second a lot more pop sounding – but I had both on rotation when they dropped. In fact, I may have to dig them out and give em’ a lil’ play.

P.sFrom time they through Aubrey out, it was over. Sure, she wasn’t the best singer, but she made that group interesting.
This is pretty interesting. Diddy admits that Lil’ Kim has reason to be pissed at her portrayal in the new Biggie biopic…

As I’ve mentioned, I was impressed with the movie, but I gotta say – the way certain characters were put across was a bit shady. I can’t say too much at the moment (damn embargo’s!) but I mean it is a Biggie movie at the end of the day.
Peace, Love & Diddy

Rhymefest – “Supersonic (Chunky Cheese)”
Damn. Damn. Damn! If you’re confused, you need to revert back to the battle between Charles Hamilton and Serius Jones. I mean, boi. Rhymefest huh. Hmmmm…?!

P.s That artwork is dope!
This is great to see. Jennifer Hudson returns to work and was spotted on the set of her new video for “If This Isn’t Love” which will air early February…

So glad to see her back to it. It’s been suggested that Hudson will also re-release her debut album at some point this year. More pictures after the jump!

Katie Couric is interviewing a whole host of artists for some kind of Grammy special (I don’t know much about American news lol) and this clip is of Lil’ Wayne’s interview…

Shouts to RJ for this!

Errrrrrryone and their mum is talking about Twitter. The dialogue is pretty big right now. I’m hearing it on GMTV, This Morning, Sky News, I’m reading it in the Guardian and the Independent and am now hearing it on the bus. Not to mention facebook, blogs and the rest of the TinterNets.
…SO naturally it’s only right I have my say.
Two quintessential questions: Twitter is…? / What’s it for…?
To be honest, I’m still really figuring it out. When I first signed up, it was out of pure interest. I kept seeing it around coz every artist/PR/management company had “twitter” at the end of their emails. Once I signed up, I was super confused.com. For a site that generates so many questions, it’s ironic that it’s very purpose is based around one simple question: What are you doing? I laid low for a bit, sussed it out and realised something so profound, so mind blowing, so massive that I felt like I figured out the meaning of life: “Twitter is…a glorified facebook status”.
LOL.
Once I realised this, I began using it quite a bit and now am pretty much using it whenever I’m online. For me personally, it’s a great way to connect with a whole heap of artists/producers who I respect and have come to know through PinBoard and similarly with PR/Management/Label folks and other bloggin’ peeps I’ve met a long the way (and of course this is true of personal friends too).
It is a good and simple way of seeing what peeps are up to and yo, when you get an email saying “Jay Electronica” is following you and then recieve a direct message from him – it’s pretty damn cool. (Erykah Badu says hello btw!) LOL. BUT in all total honestly the “What’s it for…?” question is still very hard to explain. I’m not entirely sure what it’s for or if indeed it is needed, but I know that in the age of the online social network – twitter somehow fits in.
I know some will stubbornly not sign up (just to prove a point) and I know some will hate it. And yea I agree, it’s a bit of a hassle having ‘one more thing’ to change/update but like most online fads – we will all get used to it. I do think this twitter business will be pretty big. It’s already maaaasssshooooosive in the USA and reports are saying that in the past 6 months the UK traffic has increased by 945%.
Truth is, just like facebook, myspace and youtube, is just another self indugegent way of letting people know you’re here. It’s nothing to be taken too seriously – it’s just a bit of fun at the end of the day.
So yea, to twitter or not to twitter. That is the question.
Oh and make sure you follow me!
Peace, Love & Twitter

Nuff’ respect to Amelia over at Put Me On It for posting this up!
Ahu (Dolly) drops a dope (x100) half hour “Worldwide Family Mix” - which quite frankly you need in your life. It features tracks from FlyLo, Oddisee and Madlib. Actually, this ain’t for the faint hearted – you ready for this kinda sh*t? Me thinks you are!
This also reminded me, I didn’t post up anything after attending the legendary Giles Peterson Worldwide Awards @ Cargo this past weekend. Well, it’s a bit late now, so I ain’t gonna digress to much, not to mention, it’s a no brainer – of course it was a heavi night! The line up was beyooond! Jazzanova killed it for me though. Sheeeeeit! Stacey Epps was ill too though. They all were in fact!

Another example of why Twitter works so well. The homey 6th Sense is readying the release of his It’s a 6th Sense Beat Yo” project on Feb 3rd. Make sure you cop that good stuff and go show the dude (who’s been supplying us with all those dope beats) some love via his myspace. Artwork by Fernando of Secret Society.
