Some new R&B for your weekend – thought I’d pop em’ all into one post.

Toni Braxton – “Melt”

I can’t say I love it, but I definitely don’t hate it. I like Toni Braxton and I love her voice, but I can’t say I’ve enjoyed much of her material post-Secrets – I mean, she’s had a few tunes (“Hit the Freeway” etc) but as a whole, I’ve not really been impressed. This continues to be the case unfortunately. I’m really hoping this album proves me wrong though because as I said, I think she has a dope voice.

Ciara – “Explode”

Ergh. This ain’t good, at all. It’s just so “blah”, I don’t get why R&B has become so stagnant? Granted, this isn’t the worst R&B I’ve heard, but like many, many others, it’s just very…uninspiring. It’s boring. I don’t really get why or how people could enjoy this. It’s whatever. I think I’m one of the few people who yet to see anything “special” about Ciara. Sorry stans. *Waits for the backlash*

Jamie Foxx – “Nothin’ From Ya”

Now, this is what I’m talkin’ about! Jamie Foxx teams up with Timbaland and produces this little R&B gem! I loved Foxx’s first album and I’m really looking forward to his new album. He’s a great singer and song writer and I’m definitely feelin’ this track!

Brandy – “Torn Down”

On first listen, I thought I was gonna hate this. But actually – I quite like it. I don’t love it, but It’s a decent mid-tempo track. Will Brandy return to form on this album? Who knows, we’ll have to wait and see but admittedly, I haven’t hated the leaked material thus far. Hmmm…

Deborah Cox – “Beautiful U R” [Video]

I used to loooooove Deborah Cox! I mean, she dropped some SERIOUS R&B tunes back in the day and of course, her voice is dope as hell. I’m glad she’s back, but…and I hate to keep repeating myself, I’m not feelin’ this track at all or it’s video. I “get it” and I understand what it’s about (song and video) but it’s just not something I’d refer back to or play again for that matter. I just wish this R&B heads would produce something exciting/beautiful and utilize the great voices their have (this is to the Deborah’s/Monica’s/Brandy’s/Faith’s etc) because the sh*t they seem to be producing at the moment don’t seem to be doing that. It’s all so watered down nowadays.

Anyways, I’m sure I’ll get some hating comments/emails about this email, but please note: I’m not hating, I love music and WANT to like it all, but that’s just never gonna happen. So yea, whatever init!
