I ain’t gon’ lie. I’m pissed. The EMA’s are in Liverpool tonight and Speeakz tried and tried to get himself a good, good hook-up – the fact I’m posting this obviously means I wasn’t successful! LOL. It’s gonna be a seriously dope show with Beyonce, KanYe, Estelle and a whole host of other massive artists and guest presenters taking the stage. So yea, I’m pissed.

Check the performances:

Beyonce – “If I Were a Boy”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmcTK8xBXLQ]

I mean, the vocal was dope – but with Beyonce, that’s a given. I was really bored man, I really thought she’d start with this track and go on to “Single Ladies” but nope, she stuck to “Beyonce” not “Sasha Fierce” (LOL). It was what it was I guess. Let’s hope the other performances will be more exciting.

Estelle Feat KanYe West – “American Boy”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQaqlfECqEQ]

Firstly: THAT STAGE IS SERIOUS! Secondly: I’m [corny yes] so, so proud of Estelle. She’s doing BIG things and the UK really need to start respecting that properly. Thirdly: DOPE performance, great to see KanYe doing this live. I can’t imagine what the atmosphere in that place is like esp with the election result etc. MTV & Liverpool did it BIG this year man. Yup – still bitter.

KanYe West – “Love LockDown”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9Y9zBaZZcA]

Lol KanYe really isn’t a singer huh? So jokes. BUT like I’ve been arguing saying this song is soooo not about his vocals, so I allow him. That stage and this performance work perfectly. That stage is maaaaasive

Duffy – “Mercy”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghN1EygndgU]

I think it’s cool MTV got Duffy to perform. This song has been massive for her and so I think it’s only right they showcase her – I say this because it’s easy to bypass Duffy in light of the other more ‘pop(ular)’ female artists that came out of the UK this year. Her voice is serious.

Pink – “So What”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fttF__S8Pvc]

I ain’t gonna lie, I didn’t like this track when I first heard it but now I really do?! This tune has been pretty big for Pink – it gave her her first number one and set up the album nicely to do the same. Her live performances are always energetic and fun to watch – this one is no exception. I know I’ve said it before, but MTV went ALL out this year – you see the VIP lounges? Daamn!

What do YOU think of the performances?

Peace, Love & MTV EMA’s 2008

P.s This post will be updated with performances as they become available.

    I liked Beyonce's performance. She's probably the most consistent in the game.

    Loved Estelle's.

    Kanye – I'm just not feeling his material. LOL you can't say that without being called closed minded now. But even as someone who listens to EVERYthing, every genre, and a fan of Kanye, his new material is so petty and uninspired.

    Duffy – Maybe, I'm just sick of the song.

    Pink – OK. Don't care too much for the song, but her personality makes up for that.

  2. Fantasticunt says:

    again, un-even vocals to make you doubt the legitimacy of Kanye's forthcoming 'endeavour'.

    moments of cringeworthy notes, juxtaposed with seconds of rousing brilliance. but you can tell he's always nervous when he SINGS, and nerves is what ruin the optimum delivery of air & notes. but i think he can actually hold a note decent(ish) and even rise to occasion- ON RARE OCCASION.

    nonetheless. minus the vocoder fiasco, i'd think the song is amazing. lyrically it IS very heartfelt and drawn from a place of clear anxiety, and he tried to transmit that facially in the performance which i did like.

    and yeah, the stage looks a wee bit epic still!

    otherwise, no offence to Liverpool, but why the fuck was this in Liverpool?

    sincerely yours, An Ignorant Londoner Who Would Liked To Have Gone, Locally.

  3. ahem!! says:

    WOW. Kanye really cannot sing!?! I have to say, that performance, vocally, was a shambles. I really can't wait to hear the new album now in all its vocoder glory..Nerves? i'm sorry this is the EMA's and your kanye west. Man up lol.

    AS raw as the lyrics are, I dont get the sentiment or soul coming through with that horrible voice.. I only get that from the beat/ rhythm personally on this track.

    Just doesn't work for me. I liked the kanye who was an ok rapper- i could deal with his boring flow as at least he had a few good lyrics and heavy beats/production.
