Don’t know about you peeps, but I’m hooked on the X-Factor this year round. The talent is craaaaaazy good!

For those of you outside the UK: the X-Factor is the UK version of American Idol but with a twist. The X-Factor has 4 judges and each have their own category: The boys [Simon Cowel], the girls [Cheryl Cole], over 25′s [Danni Minogue] and groups [Louis Walsh]. Personally, I think this show is better/more interesting than American Idol.

…But anyways, this Saturday saw the start of the live shows. I’ve told errrrrrrryone I know that I think Cheryl Cole will win this year. She’s got two of the best contestants in the show: Alexandra Burke and Laura White < who I already say is the winner (or should be the winner). Check their performances below and see what I’m talking about:

Honestly, I don’t often rewind performances – no matter how great they are, but I watched Laura’s performance about 5 times – straight up. She killed it. Her voice is differently dope and she’s just someone you WANT to hear/see. Not to mention, I already want her album!

Even though these two are my favs, the talent this year is beyond any other year we’ve had. There are some strong contenders and I think this series will be the most exciting to date. Boi. Love me some X-Factor.

UK, don’t mess up. Pick the right people – did you see what happened last year? Seriously.

UK STAND UP!

Kano dropped “140 Grime St.” a few weeks back and I’ve meaning to write something about it since then…

Peeps from outside the UK who don’t know about Kano, you best educate yourselves QUICK.

“140 Grime St.” sees the return of one of the best UK MC’s around. Doing what he does best, Kano reminds everyone why we first heard of him. After two major-label albums and a few mainstream-no brainer hits, he comes back, on his own, with this skilled, intelligent, hard, gritty and conscious LP. These days it seems everyone and their best mate is an MC and has a video on Channel U and so hearing a well crafted and consistent Grime album is refreshing and not to mention – well needed.

Faults are far and few between, highlights are plentiful. Wiley and Kano, both on top of their game right now, sharing the mic on “Anywhere We Go” has ‘classic’ written all over it. “We Gangster”, “Don’t Come Around Here” and “I like It” [amongst others] are all noteworthy. And of course, not forgetting the album’s lead single “Hustler” with it’s exceptional accompanying video:

…The best UK grime video EVER? Possibly. Probably. Positively!

It really doesn’t matter how many units Kano shifts, he can be proud of this. It’s phenomenal. Kano has proved himself one of the best in the game.

Actually. [Speeakz takes a bite of some humble pie] Having watched the video, I really like the tune now! LOL. That’s some serious visuals. The concept of the video is fly as hell and the execution was just as dope. Although I ‘got’ the tune before I saw the video, I didn’t like it and to be honest, it still ain’t one I’ll be playing on a regular – but the video definitely gives it a whole new dimension.

We’ll see what Beyonce drops for her second single “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On)” next week sometime.
