Last night the PinBoard crew bowled down to the 13th annual MOBO Nominations Launch Party held at the swanky Beach Blanket Babylon in Shoreditch, where the nominations for this years Awards were formally announced for the first time. It was a cool affair, with free drinks and good, good friends!

I know loads of people have their opinions on MOBO, but the fact is, it’s the only Award show of it’s kind in Europe and I think it’s pretty important to support it and so…I do! It was great to see how many UK artists were recognised this year and for the first time the UK artists/videos stood shoulder to shoulder with the bigger, more established US acts. We all know it’s been a great year for British music so naturally that’s reflected in this years MOBO Awards Nominations! Estelle led the nominations this year with 5 nods, but Wiley, Adele, Leona Lewis, M.I.A and Dizzee (amongst others) were also nominated!

The affair was more about press than celebrities – which was a bit of a shame really. Estelle was meant to be there, but failed to catch her eurostar from Paris and so the room was pretty much filled with either: UK newcomers (Chipmunk and DJ Ironik (who also performed)), nominees Jay Sean, Bashy and Skepta, as well as the obligatory Big Brother crew LOL - who were giving me the biggest jokes. Mo, Sylvia, Darnell and (HOT) Maysoon were lapping it all up! Hey, might as well, it’s only gonna last about 5 minutes more! But yea, generally it was a press affair and a nice place to catch up with peeps you haven’t seen in a minute. Ace & Vis hosted the evenings festivities, which involved their usual comedic antics.

Oh, it was also announced that Mel B and Rev Run will be hosting this years MOBO Awards! I think that combination is overly dope! Mel B is pretty cool/fun and Rev Run is just a legend! Can’t wait to see what they come up with!

This year’s MOBO Awards will be held at the historic Wembley Arena. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster or the Wembley Arena website. This year tickets are going for as little as £20, so I suggest you grab yours while you still can. They’ve promised a bigger and better show than even before! And boi, the Wembley Arena is most certainly bigger!

Make sure you go vote for your favourite nominees over at MOBO.com

Reading your comment about the big brother guests I do agree with you there but I am in the industry and Maysoon has been attending the Mobo’s for the past couple of years it is no biggie for her. She has worked with British acts like Nathan, Jay Sean, Simon Webbe, as well as US acts so it’s a little unfair to put her in that group with them. (Besides she left the show when she realised she was too good for them) She will be around for a long time yet…hopefully!!

Can’t wait to see Mel B and Rev run do there thing!
Hope Leona and Estelle do well
