It has been announced today that Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes’ last solo project will finally be released.
The 30 year old rapper of R&B supergroup TLC had big aspirations of solo stardom, but her dreams were brought to a tragic end when she lost her life in a car crash in 2002. Left Eye’s debut solo album “Supernova” which was exclusively released in Europe & Asia did not perform very well commercially. She was readying the release of her second album at the time of her death.
In the Mass Appeal Entertainment press release, it stated that the album entitled “Eye-Legacy” will feature 12 unreleased tracks with collaborations from past friends and inspired artists including Missy Elliott, Tupac Shakur, Camillionaire, Lil’ Mama & Bobby Valentino”
In a statement for Left Eye supporters around the world, the Lopes family explained that this project was meant to be released for her fans, whether new or old. “We hope people understand the message in Lisa’s music and appreciate her as not just a member of TLC, but as a solo artist as well. This album is Left Eye’s musical gift to her fans and adds to the beauty of her legacy,” said the Lopes family.
The first single off the new album will be “Let’s Just Do It,” featuring Missy Elliot. “Eye-Legacy” is expected to hit shelves November 11th 2008.
I think this is great news. Left Eye was one of the best (and often underrated) female MC’s in the game and I always felt she had so much more to offer than the verses she did on those classic TLC tracks. Her life was taken way too soon and so it’s great for her to have this album be released and great for the fans to finally be able to hear it.
