After some good, good Nando’s, the PinBoard crew headed down to our local Vue cinema to catch the 11.30pm screening of “The Dark Knight”. I don’t have to tell you how much hype has surrounded this movie and how many records it has broken in the box-office, but what I will tell you is…

This. Movie. Is. F*cking. Unbelievable!

I’m not a movie critic, so I’m not exactly sure what I should be saying, but what I will say is: if you don’t love this movie, there is something very, very, very, very wrong with you.

I must admit, I was a lil’ worried before seeing it because even though I normally stay away from movie [or album] reviews before I actually get to see [or hear] it for myself, I kept hearing very mixed opinions about it. I was praying that it wasn’t all hype and that “The Dark Knight” was going to be as good as it should be/I expected it to be. Thankfully, it was more…

The action was ridiculous. It was modern, slick, [at  times, perfectly] understated, explosive, edgy and thrilling. The gadgets! Oh my God, the gadgets were too much! I won’t go into detail about them because I think you should be as surprised and as happy as I was when I first saw them!

The entire cast acted their ASSES off too. Christian Bale, Michael Kane, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and of course Heath Ledger all committed to their roles convincingly. It’s easy to assume Heath Ledger’s critical acclaim is due, in part to his untimely death. And while I do believe in the most cynical of ways, his passing has helped boost the profile of this film, it is undeniable that what that man does as the Joker is anything less than remarkable. His method acting in “The Dark Knight” is beyond skillful. He dug deep. At times he was actually hard to watch. He took the Joker to some next, next, next level and then turned him inside out. jack nicholson did an amazing job of immortalising the Joker during the late 80′s til’ now, but what Legder does in “The Dark Knight” is beyond anything I could have expected from that character. The scenes with Batman and Joker are intense and great to watch. The chemistry between Bale and Legder was obvious.

Personally, I loved how dark the film was. I actually don’t think it’s suitable for a 12A audience. It’s blatant, in-your-face violence, menacing dialogue and disturbing scenes should have been limited to a 15 certificate (in my opinion). But the constant battle between good and [true, real, sick, crazy] evil was what kept the film so gritty. The unexpected twists and general ethos of the film made “The Dark Knight” THE best Batman film ever made – hands down. ”Batman Begins” was dope. “The Dark Knight” surpasses that by a long shot.

After 2½ hours, I was ready to watch the film again from the beginning. I literally can’t get the movie (and the Joker) out of my head. It was all too much, but I still wanted more! < Greed.

Go watch this movie this weekend people. My review (I promise you) has done it no justice < LOL Dunno what that’s saying really? haha!

Peace, Love & The Dark Knight

As the king of an amoral universe, as a purveyor of unrestricted evil for fun, Ledger’s dastardly villain, attired as sort of a rotting Clarabell, has chosen his own damnation. He’s jumped into an abyss he has dug himself, and he wants to pull us along.
