The lovely Stephanie over at A-Side Worldwide dropped this jem into my inbox this passed weekend and also says she’ll be leaking a Buff1 track every week till his “There’s Only One” is released on August 12th. I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the album a couple weeks back and lemme tell you, it’s most impressive! [Review soon come].

For now however, enjoy “Back It Up” coming off Ski Beatz “Half Man, Half Amazing” album…

Ski Beatz feat. Buff1 – “Back It Up‏”

Feelin this in a big way. Also pretty excited about the Buff1 leaks! Keep yourself nicely locked here for the tracks!

Once upon a time, Soulful-Hip Hop married Electronica, soon after they had a baby and named it J*DaVeY. The baby grew up fast and began making music and in doing so turned convention on it’s head. J*DaVeY’s mishmash of sounds has created a sub-genre of music that incorporates elements ranging far and wide. It’s both hard and soft, edgy yet subtle, it’s lyrical but beat driven. It’s a bit of everything and usually when people say “it’s a bit of everything” it gets messy, but it’s obvious J*DaVey has a very clear vision of what it wants to be and therefore avoids any unintentional messiness.

With the release of their two new EP’s “The Beauty in Distortion” and “The Land of the Lost”, PinBoard [a long time fan] connected with the twosome to find out a lil’ more about the band everyone is talking about…

Name/Age/Hometown?

Brook D’Leau/26/Los Angeles, CA

Miss Jack Davey/26/ stLA, CA

You were introduced through a mutual friend during high school, what were your first impressions of each another? Was there an instant chemistry?

J: Brook was just this cute guy with a cool vibe. We met at my senior prom & were instant friends. It wasn’t till a year later that we both discovered each others music.

Jack, how did your name change come about and why Jack Davey?

J: it’s not a name change as much as it is another character, the little monster inside of me that is compelled by the music to act out. Jack is for jack of all trades & Davey for adventure.

Your music is a blend of various genres, past and present, which artists would you say have had the most profound influence in your music?

B: Prince, The Police, Talking Heads

J: Prince, Jim Morrison, Miles Davis, E.Badu

Continue getting to know J*DaVeY after the jump! GO!

After some good, good Nando’s, the PinBoard crew headed down to our local Vue cinema to catch the 11.30pm screening of “The Dark Knight”. I don’t have to tell you how much hype has surrounded this movie and how many records it has broken in the box-office, but what I will tell you is…

This. Movie. Is. F*cking. Unbelievable!

I’m not a movie critic, so I’m not exactly sure what I should be saying, but what I will say is: if you don’t love this movie, there is something very, very, very, very wrong with you.

I must admit, I was a lil’ worried before seeing it because even though I normally stay away from movie [or album] reviews before I actually get to see [or hear] it for myself, I kept hearing very mixed opinions about it. I was praying that it wasn’t all hype and that “The Dark Knight” was going to be as good as it should be/I expected it to be. Thankfully, it was more…

The action was ridiculous. It was modern, slick, [at  times, perfectly] understated, explosive, edgy and thrilling. The gadgets! Oh my God, the gadgets were too much! I won’t go into detail about them because I think you should be as surprised and as happy as I was when I first saw them!

The entire cast acted their ASSES off too. Christian Bale, Michael Kane, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and of course Heath Ledger all committed to their roles convincingly. It’s easy to assume Heath Ledger’s critical acclaim is due, in part to his untimely death. And while I do believe in the most cynical of ways, his passing has helped boost the profile of this film, it is undeniable that what that man does as the Joker is anything less than remarkable. His method acting in “The Dark Knight” is beyond skillful. He dug deep. At times he was actually hard to watch. He took the Joker to some next, next, next level and then turned him inside out. jack nicholson did an amazing job of immortalising the Joker during the late 80′s til’ now, but what Legder does in “The Dark Knight” is beyond anything I could have expected from that character. The scenes with Batman and Joker are intense and great to watch. The chemistry between Bale and Legder was obvious.

Personally, I loved how dark the film was. I actually don’t think it’s suitable for a 12A audience. It’s blatant, in-your-face violence, menacing dialogue and disturbing scenes should have been limited to a 15 certificate (in my opinion). But the constant battle between good and [true, real, sick, crazy] evil was what kept the film so gritty. The unexpected twists and general ethos of the film made “The Dark Knight” THE best Batman film ever made – hands down. ”Batman Begins” was dope. “The Dark Knight” surpasses that by a long shot.

After 2½ hours, I was ready to watch the film again from the beginning. I literally can’t get the movie (and the Joker) out of my head. It was all too much, but I still wanted more! < Greed.

Go watch this movie this weekend people. My review (I promise you) has done it no justice < LOL Dunno what that’s saying really? haha!

Peace, Love & The Dark Knight

My man ESSO sent this over and here’s what he had to say about it:

Not the remix, its the eMix. I heard this song in the club like 3 weeks ago and had to find it. Then I randomly came across the instrumental which is obviously RETARDED. So I figured I would play with it and see what happened. Enjoy

“Call me Jesus Shuttlesworth when it come to the game/ And I’m ready for the league I just came from Big State”

I had never heard of Randy Pausch before today. After browsing a few blogs, I discovered who he was and what he did.

Randy Pausch was a professor at Carnagie Mellon and last year he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He became an Internet sensation when his last lecture hit YouTube. Since then, the hour long video has been seen by over 3.2 million people and has been featured on the Oprah show. It was also recently turned into a book.

Sadly, Randy lost his battle with cancer today. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.

…It’s clear from watching the lecture however, that Randy would not have wanted people to remember his illness or the fact that he died from cancer. It was clear he wasn’t in the business of self pitty, but would rather live every day with fun. The guy is a true inspiration, it just bugs me I’m only NOW discovering him and his work.

After emailing it to most of my friends and family, I thought I’d post here on PinBoard for you, my TinterNet fam. I never actually intended to watch the entire lecture (it is an hour!), but after hearing Pausch speak, I was mesmerized by what he was saying and how he was saying it.

Please, please, please take an hour out of your day and watch this video. I really think like me, you’ll get a lot from it. Pausch talks about life and about dreams; the dreams we all have when growing up and he reminds us how important it is to never give up or ignore those childish dreams. He speaks about the importance of living a FUN life and how it’s important to be self reflective. He does all of this while not being preachy. It’s not a “how to guild”, he’s not trying to be a guru. in fact it’s the opposite. It’s pretty much a glimpse inside this mans amazing life and from that, you learn a lot < at least I did.

I really am happy that I discovered this video today. So, thanks Randy!

I say to thee: Enjoy this.

Madvillain – “Never Go Pop”

Madvillain – “Monkey Suit”

Madvillain- “No Brain”[OKP stream]

I don’t need to tell you how ridiculous Madvillainy is. MF DOOM and Madlib not only gave me an album that I constantly go back to, but also a lingering need for MORE! So, thanks to OKP & the 2dopeboyz, my craving has been subsided – for now at least. The tracks are coming off the “Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remixes” no, no, don’t piss yourself, it’s NOT the sequel! However, from reading around, it’s pretty dope and supposedly helps the waiting. It’s been released digitally over at StonesThrow.

I hate to patronise, but I really can’t imagine ANYONE who loves Hip Hop not owning/having a copy of this monumental album, but if you don’t…I actually have no words for you.

Peace, Love & Madvillian
