Leona Lewis has become the first British female solo artist to go straight into the number 1 spot in the U, S of A album charts!
HOW. MASSIVE. IS THAT?
Selling over 205,000 copies in its first week, the album quite easily beat off all competition. The word on the street over the pond is that Leona Lewis is billed as their heir to Whitney Houston throne…Daaaayum!
Not only is this Baby Diva breaking records on her home turf (dont forget her album out sold the previous record set by the Artic Monkeys for fastest-selling debut over here in the UK) but is now broking all kinds of international records by topping the US charts.
We all know what this woman can do, we all knew when we heard her on the X-Factor that she wasn’t ‘just another’ reality TV star and this all confirms that (not that we needed any more confimation!).
With Simon Cowell AND Clive Davis as mentors, Lewis was always set for world domination. “The TV aspect is irrelevant. I was impressed with [Leona] in the same way Whitney Houston or Alicia Keys auditioned for me” says music mogul (and all round genius) Clive Davis.
Leona has joined a growing list of British Female singers who have not only enjoyed success on their home land, but also have crashed the US. Amy Winehouse, Natasha Bedingfield, Lily Allen and Corinne Bailey Rae have all flown the flag for British music in the states.
Duffy, Estelle and Adele are amount the next hit British artists due to launch their albums across the Atlantic – and we gots no doubt they’ll be hits too!
We couldn’t be happier for Leona, we think she deserves all the success in the world. Her talent is extremely rare. That voice!!
The 00’s have definitely found their Mariah/Whitney/Celine/Barbara – booooooyaaaaa!
Peace, Love & Baby Diva
